Remote Cabin & Off-Grid Property Monitoring

Your cabin, checked every 10 minutes — even when it’s 100 miles away and sitting in the dark.

Cabin Watchdog is JoinerNetworks’ remote monitoring service for off-grid cabins and rural properties that sit empty between visits. It watches the things that actually go wrong at an unattended property — power loss, internet failure, break-ins, freezing temperatures, smoke and carbon monoxide — and emails you the moment anything changes.

See it running, live

This isn’t a concept. The system was built for our own off-grid cabin near Wendel, California, and it runs there today. When a 1.1-sun-hour day ran the battery bank flat in October 2026 and the inverter shut down, the watchdog reported the property going dark within minutes — alarm panel offline at 6:53 PM, fridge plug unreachable at 6:58 PM — with nobody within 100 miles of the place.

What’s monitored

  • Power & internet canary — a Wi-Fi/cellular alarm panel plus a smart plug on a critical circuit, checked every 10 minutes. Both going dark means the property lost power or connectivity, and you hear about it in minutes, not next month.
  • Motion cameras — solar Wi-Fi cameras with snapshot review and person verification, plus false-alarm filtering so cloud shadows don’t spam your inbox.
  • Freeze protection — temperature sensors at the battery bank, inside the cabin, and outdoors, with alerts before pipes and batteries reach damaging cold.
  • Smoke & CO — a certified Wi-Fi smoke/carbon-monoxide detector’s status, battery, and alarms on your status page, alongside its own app alerts.
  • Alarm events — door sensors and panel triggers, emailed with the zone identified.
  • Weather & fire context — wind and fire-weather flags, NWS alerts, and a sunlight forecast so you know how your solar bank is holding up.

How it works

No computer is needed at your property. Your devices talk to their makers’ clouds just like they do in their apps; our server checks those clouds every 10 minutes and maintains a private status page for your property. You get email only when something changes — offline, back online, alarm, freeze risk, a verified person on camera. Silence means all is well.

Your accounts stay yours

You create and keep your own device accounts and passwords. Devices are shared to JoinerNetworks read-only for monitoring, and you can revoke that access at any time. Least privilege isn’t a slogan here — it’s how the service is built.

Pilot pricing

  • Setup: $150 (accounts, sharing, thresholds, your status page) — installation available at our standard day rate if you’d like us to place and configure the gear.
  • Watchdog Basic — $15/month: power/internet canary, alarm events, freeze alerts, status page.
  • Watchdog Plus — $25/month: Basic plus camera snapshot review with person verification and smoke/CO status.

Gear (alarm panel, cameras, sensors, detector) is purchased separately — typically $250–400 — and you own it outright.

The honest fine print

Cabin Watchdog is property awareness, not a central-station alarm or life-safety service: it doesn’t dispatch police or fire, and if your property’s internet is down, remote visibility is down with it (the cellular panel narrows that gap, and we report “dark” honestly rather than guessing). For smoke and CO, the certified detector and its own app are always the primary alert path.
